GRANT, Reverend Dalton
September 4, 1922-March 28, 2017
"How can we say thanks for all the things that you have done for us? The voices of a million angels could not express our gratitude." - Andre Crouch

It is with great sadness, heavy hearts, and a profound sense of loss, that the family of the Reverend Dalton Grant, announce his passing, on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the meritorious and wise age of 94. He was a much loved and respected husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend, confidant, counsel, and reverend, (Pastor Emeritus). Dalton has been called home.Predeceased by his oldest daughter, Earline and by siblings Levanuel (Buster), Estella, Clara Bell, W.A., Archie Lee, Charlesetta; survived by Ruby, his beloved wife of 57 years and friend for over 80 years; son, Dalton Jr., daughters Cynthia, and Chalaundrai; sister, Joella Brown; brother, Olen Grant Sr. (Joyce); son-in-law Edward Oakes; granddaughters, Cheri Oakes, Lori Oakes, and Sheli Oakes Gaskin (Bert); great- grandsons, Jonathan, and Julian; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Born in Long Creek, Oklahoma, he was above all else a man of God. In his 94 years on earth he experienced many trials and tribulations, but his faith never wavered. He started working as a young boy on his family's farm in Oklahoma picking cotton. He left home to work at a soil conservation camp in his late teens. He fought in World War II. When he returned home to the states after the war, he experienced discrimination and prejudice that never lessened his spirit or determination. He travelled throughout the states working a variety of jobs. When he was called to the ministry he studied daily for hours and became a much-respected minister known for his compelling sermons. He was a man of very few notes and when other ministers would ask for his notes, he would often hand them one cue card with a few lines written on it. He was a pastor in California before he was called to Shiloh Baptist Church in Edmonton. He ended his ministry at McLaurin Baptist Church, where for the last 20 years he served as Pastor Emeritus and prior to that he was Director of Pastoral Care. He was in his 60th year of Ministry. He had impeccable timing and was known for his voice, and we will carry the sound of his voice in our hearts forever. He would go to the hospital anytime day or night to pray for families. His importance to the community can't be explained adequately to those who don't know. He counseled us to stand up no matter what the hardship, and we will endeavor to follow his lead and always stand up.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 6 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Westlawn Funeral Home, 16310 Stony Plain Rd.
