Rafael Alas
October 28, 1981 - February 19, 2017
It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce that our beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, Rafael Omar Alas (Rafa), passed away on February 19, 2017. He is survived by his parents Jose and Ana; brothers Jose Jr. and Steve; sisters-in-law Ricki and Christina White; nephew Tristan; niece Sloane; and pets Zoey and Mia; as well as his extended family and friends.
Rafa was born in Heredia, Costa Rica on October 28, 1981, and moved with his family to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1983. He was a talented young man, never afraid to try something new, who was truly a jack-of-all-trades. He loved hip-hop and could always be heard rapping or freestyling. He always strived to be fashionable with stylish outfits and fresh, clean kicks. Rafa could always make you laugh with his sense of humor and contagious laughter. His wonderful smile could brighten up any room. He was the light of our lives and a great friend to so many people.
We are shocked and devastated over our loss of our dear Rafa, but have found so much comfort in the love, kindness and warm generosity that our friends and family have given us in these past days. We are grateful for all the support we have received, and we would like to express our special appreciation to a few of his closest friends, Anthony Pedatella, Kristy & Ashley Tillapaugh, for all their help and generosity through this difficult time.
Rafa will be dearly missed and we will continue to cherish our memories of him and celebrate the time we had together. We will never forget Rafa.
