<div itemprop="description">Hans Choy, 74, of Sherwood Park passed away peacefully in his sleep early on the morning of January 10th, 2017. He was born in Hong Kong as the second of seven children to Choy Wai Hoy and Choy to Po Chun. He attended the Pui Ching school and continued to be a loyal alumni of the school. <br> <br>In 1971, Hans married Maggie at All Saint’s Anglican Church in Hong Kong and moved to Canada in 1976 where they had their two sons. <br> <br>Hans and Maggie opened their first business, Rainbow Restaurant, in Whitecourt in 1980. In 1986, Hans and Maggie began a new venture in Sherwood Park, The Dragon Steak House and Checkers Lounge. They operated the business for 30 years and were one of the first Karaoke establishments in the Edmonton Area. As the Karaoke host for Checkers Lounge, Hans was able to share his passion for music with his customers who became his friends. He was known by everyone as the “Karaoke King”. <br> <br>He was an avid photographer and a member of the Photographic Arts Society of Alberta. He was also actively involved in the local Chinese community working with such groups as the Edmonton Beijing Opera Society. <br> <br>He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Maggie; his sons, Howard and Henry; his daughter-in-law, Lisa; and his grandchildren, Dmitri and Bethany. <br> <br></div>
