ANN (PENNY) BARROS (née Pennington)
March 3, 1916 - June 8, 2016

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, mother-in-law, grandma, and great-grandma, Ann (Penny) Barros on June 8, 2016. Left to remember, love and miss her are her son Irvin (Colleen), granddaughter Mandy (Ryan) Park and great-grandchildren Liam and Caitlyn Park, and granddaughter Shannah Barros; son Ross (Gail), granddaughter Maren Barros (Perry MacDonald) and great-grandson Chephren Hasse, grandson Jace, and granddaughter Kylie. Also left to cherish special memories are her brothers Dave Pennington of Coronation and Ralph Pennington of Drumheller, sister-in-law Florence Marr of Abbotsford, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Penny was predeceased by her husband, Bruce, in 1961 and by her sisters Nancy, Doreen, Lucy, Viola, and brothers Arthur, Fred and Allan.

Penny's professional life started with a number of years in retail, first in rural Alberta, and then at her own dress shop, Penny's Ladies' Wear, in Edmonton. Following Bruce's death, Penny continued the tradition of working for Caterpillar by taking on the challenge of a number of administrative positions with R. Angus. In her retirement she was a diligent and generous supporter of her children and grandchildren in their various endeavours. That she was still living in her own home and shovelling her own walks at 90, and the fact that she reached her 100th birthday in March are testaments to the fierce independence, fortitude and tenacity that were the hallmarks of Penny's life.

Special thanks to the staff at Good Samaritan Southgate for their concern and compassion for Penny during her time in their care.

A memorial service and celebration of Penny's life will be held on Wednesday, June 29 at 11:30 am. Details are below. In lieu of flowers, if you so desire, donations to a charity of your choice in Penny's name would be appreciated.
