Wilcox, Velma Gladys
June 10, 1928 – May 15, 2017

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Velma Gladys Wilcox at the age of 88. Velma passed peacefully with family at her side at the Misericordia Hospital. Velma was predeceased by her parents Walter and Lavinia; brothers, Melvin and James; and sisters, Pearl, Vivian and Marjorie. Velma will be lovingly remembered by her brother Malcolm; daughter Debra (Les); son Lonnie (Gisele); grandchildren Jennifer, Kevin, Tommy and Chris; great grandchildren Ethan, Alyssa and Katelyn; nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

Velma met and fell in love with the love of her life, Tom while working for Alberta Government Telephones in her early twenties and they wed on April 3rd, 1953. Sadly, heart disease took Tom at the young age of 38.

Velma worked for AGT (Telus) for 35 years. Velma became a strong, independent woman, traveling to some exotic locales. She always put others’ needs before her own and was an amazing mother, grandparent and great grandparent. She made her family feel safe, loved and appreciated and was a role model for all of us. We love you and will miss you and will cherish every minute we got to spend with you.

The family is extremely grateful to Dr. Riaz and the staff on 7 East at the Misericordia Hospital for their care and compassion in our mother’s final days. We would also like to thank the staff at Lifestyle Options Terra Losa for their compassionate and loving care in her final six months.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 24 at 2 p.m. at the Westlawn Funeral Home, 16310 Stony Plain Rd.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta.
