Mavis Elizabeth Neil, 89, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, passed away on December 16, 2012.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 12:00 pm at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, Edmonton, Alberta, with visitation at 11:00 am. Reverend Trevor Neil of Tabernacle of Praise Church will be officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Howard & McBride Westlawn Funeral Home, Edmonton, Alberta at 3:00 pm.
Mavis was born in Winterspen, St. Catherine, Jamaica on May 24th, 1923. She was married to Elmar Neil on December 26th, 1943; they were happily married 49 years.
Mavis worked tirelessly as a home maker for her family from Jamaica, England and Canada, and assisted her husband in ministry beginning in United Kingdom where Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic (Birmingham) started in their home. After moving to Canada she continued alongside her husband who was Pastor of Shiloh Tabernacle in Athabasca, Alberta, Canada from 1974 to 1992. Mavis also enjoyed pottery, sewing, and cooking.
Mavis is survived by her eight children: Norma Barnett, Cynthia Stetson, Trevor Neil, Dermoth Neil, Marilyn McGreer, David Neil, Janet Neil and Sharon Laumen; 20 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and many close family and friends.
Mavis is preceded in death by her husband, Elmar Samuel Neil who passed away in 1992 and her grandson, Richard Barnett who passed away in 1972.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Janet Neil at 1433 Parkland Dr., Stony Plain, AB, T7Z 1X4. The family of Mavis Elizabeth Neil wishes to thank Noel Johnson for his significant contribution.
