James McDonough
October 10, 1925 - September 14, 2013
McDONOUGH, James Edward
At any rate, when light breaks over me
The way it did on the road beyond
Coleraine Where wind got saltier, the sky more
hurried And silver lame´ shivered on the Bann
Out in mid-channel between the painted
poles That day I'll be in step with what escaped
me
- Seamus Heaney
Jimmy passed away on September 14,
2013. He was a man who took great
pleasure in the many good things life offers
- a hearty laugh over dinner with family, the
telling of a lively story in the company of his
f r i e n d s , a g l a s s o f w i n e , a r i c h
understanding of history and literature, a
friendly but competitive game of tennis,
and so much else. We, his family,
remember him for his vitality and love. The
twinkle in his eyes lit a spark in all those
who knew and loved him.
In recent years, it has been difficult to bear
witness to the advance of Alzheimer's as it
gradually deprived Jimmy of his ability to
embrace the people and things he loved so
much. We like to think that heaven for
Jimmy, much loved husband, father,
father-in-law, grandfather and friend,
is in a place where the sun is shining on
him, and where he's back "in step with
what escaped him" these last painful
years. In this heaven we like to imagine
Jimmy, memory intact and large heart
filled with the knowledge that he is loved
deeply by us all.
James Edward McDonough was born in
Hanley, Saskatchewan on October 10,
1925. His wife and companion, Betty,
survives him and cherishes his memory.
His spirit continues in the lives of his
loving children - Judy (Harry), Ted
(Brigitte), Diana (Chris) and Kevin (Jane),
his eight grandchildren Callum, Norah,
Jamie, Sarah, Anna, David, Jeffery and
Owen - and his six great-grandchildren. He
is also survived by his sister, Louise Lauhon
of Seattle.
We would like to send our profound thanks
to Sherry and her amazing staff at
Lynnwood 2LP. The love and care they
gave Dad over his last years has given our
family such comfort and peace. They are
truly angels.
A final farewell to Jimmy will take place at
Christ Church on October 10, 2013 (his
88th birthday) at 2:00 p.m. with a
reception to follow.
