Ivan Salisny
June 5, 1921 - May 9, 2016
On May 9, 2016 Ivan Salisny, the artist and musician, after a life fully lived, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 94. Born in Dniprodzerzhynsk, Ukraine on June 5, 1921, Ivan left his homeland after serving in the Second World War. Before arriving in Edmonton in 1953, he lived in Erlangen, Germany where he met and married his wife Helen. Ivan worked as a bricklayer, and then returned to school receiving a drafting diploma from NAIT in 1968. He worked as a draftsman at the City of Edmonton until his retirement in 1984.
Ivan is predeceased by his wife Helen (2006) and son Peter (1999). Ivan is survived by, and will be dearly missed by his son Ralph (Carol), two grandchildren, Jason (Laura) and Jennifer (Slade), and great grandchildren Gwenyth, Caroline and Mayha. He will also be missed by many friends including his special friend Margaret Bagby.
A private family interment will be held at Westlawn Memorial Gardens, followed by a Celebration of his life, open to all friends, on Tuesday May 17th at 10:30 am at Westlawn Funeral Home Reception Centre.
