Diana Winnitoy

On Valentines Day we suddenly lost the heart of our family at the age of 70.
Diana Winnitoy will be deeply missed by her husband of 50 years Ory, daughter Leanne Smith (Jeff), son Michael, and her grandchildren, the light of her life, Hayden, Lauren & Connor Smith. Diana is also survived by brother Dennis Krahn and his wife Marianne as well as her sister Shirley along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mocha, her loyal dog, was never far from her side. Diana was predeceased by her parents Viola and Robert Krahn in 2008.
Diana Winnitoy was born in Edmonton on July 11, 1946 and lived her entire life in the west end of the city. Diana attended Jasper Place High School and the University of Alberta. Jasper Place is where she met her high school sweetheart Ory. They married in 1967 and started their family shortly thereafter. Diana spent 45 years working hand in hand with Ory to build a successful family business they are immensely proud of. Diana loved to travel, her and Ory made yearly trips to Hawaii and Mexico where they loved to walk along the beach.
Diana’s summers were spent golfing at the Edmonton Country Club with her golf ladies and Fridays were always reserved for coffee or lunch with her lifelong friends.
Family was always Diana’s number one priority. She adored her children and grandchildren, her and Ory spent many days in cold hockey rinks watching Hayden & Connor play hockey or at the barn watching Lauren ride her horse.
In July of 2015 Diana was diagnosed with Cancer. As was her personality, she fought hard and successfully beat the odds but long term good health was not on her side.
Her family would like to express our sincere thanks to the exceptional Doctors and Nurses at the Misericordia hospital for their kindness.
Please join us in celebrating her life on Thursday March 16th at 2pm at Westlawn Funeral Home, 16310 Stony Plain Rd, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation in Diana’s name to the Cross Cancer Institute or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Cremation and Interment have taken place.
