DEMCHUK, Darrell Lee
October 26, 1954 - August 5, 2016

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Darrell Demchuk. Darrell succumbed to the complications of a stem cell transplant that was meant to cure his long and courageous battle with Myelodysplasia Syndrome (MDS). Darrell died peacefully surrounded by his loving family.

He will forever be remembered and deeply loved by his wife Elgie of 40 years; precious daughter Keeva; parents Andy and Lee; mother-in-law Stella Dronyk; sisters Lori, Louise (Michel), and Andrea (Jimmy); brother Mitchell; nieces, nephew, and three great-grandnephews. Darrell was predeceased by his brother Doug; grandparents; father-in-law Metro Dronyk; and brother-in-law Levi.

Darrell was retired from his career as a graphic designer, where he enjoyed more than anything the people he met and worked with. He enjoyed all the festivals Edmonton had to offer, particularly the folk/blues festivals, music, golfing, reading, ancient aliens, his yard work, the night sky (astronomy) and long walks in the dog park with his best friend, Jessie. He pampered all of his family and friends and was always at the ready to bring you a Tim Hortons or pour
you your favorite beverage!

On August 26, 2016 at 2 p.m. we will gather to honor Darrell’s life at Westlawn Funeral Home, 16310 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton, Alberta T5P 4A6. The Memorial Service will be officiated by Rev Dave Schmidt.

Keeva and I would like to express our appreciation to the many doctors and nurses who cared for Darrell over the past years, particularly the Bone Marrow Transplant Team and the ICU Team on Pod A at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. Our deepest gratitude is to our family physician Dr. Thomas Ranieri, who has been endlessly supportive, compassionate and kind to our family. We will be forever grateful for his care.

In lieu of other tributes, we invite you to join our family and friends at the “Light the Night Walk” on September 24. You can register to walk with us or donate by sponsoring a walker. Please go to the website lightthenight.ca and join “Team Double D” where you can register or donate.
